Exhaust tips attach to the end of the Chevy HHR's tailpipe. Although they do not affect the performance of the vehicle, the tips do add a sporty look. To find the tip that works with your model HHR, measure the diameter of the tailpipe at its widest point. The inlet diameter of the exhaust tip you choose should be able to fit this diameter.
- Exhaust tips are usually made from steel; however, the finish on the tips can vary. The most popular tip is polished stainless steel. Manufacturers of these tips claim that polished stainless steel lasts longer than any other type of exhaust tip. Another type of finish is triple chrome plating. These tips have a mirror-like finish. Finally, some manufacturers are starting to make black chrome tips. Examples of stainless steel tips for the HHR include models 35134 from Magnaflow and 20109 from Borla. PaceSetter makes a series of chrome plated tips and black tips.
- The tailpipe diameter of the HHR determines the inlet size of the exhaust tip. However, the length and outer bore diameter can vary according to your taste. The bore diameter and length do not affect performance, so you can choose one that looks best for the HHR. Larger bore tips will give the HHR the look of a wide diameter custom exhaust system. The length of the tip should be long enough so that it is visible from the outside of the vehicle.
- Exhaust tips can have different style outlet bores. Rounded and rectangular are a common choice offered by manufacturers of these tips. Other options are single and dual bore tips. A dual bore tip has two outlets but can attach to a single outlet exhaust pipe. The dual bore tips will give the HHR the look of a dual pipe, high performance exhaust system. Companies that make these tips include Magnaflow, Borla, PaceSetter, MBRP, and Gibson.
