Chevrolet Diesel Performance
- GM's 6.6-liter turbo diesel V-8 is available in its heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks and in its Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans. Gas engines are standard with each model; the diesel engines are optional.
- When installed in Chevrolet trucks, the Duramax diesel gets 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque. In the vans, the Duramax diesel gets 250 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The truck models have a 5,300-lb. payload and can tow up to 16,500 lbs.
- Competing diesel trucks for the Silverado and Sierra are the Ford Super Duty and Dodge Ram Heavy Duty. The GM trucks offer better performance, as the Ford gets 350 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The Dodge gets 350 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.
