International Media Institute of India-International Course for Journalism

New Delhi April 26, 2010 - International Media Institute of India is all set to begin its first 11- month Diploma in Journalism at its Noida Campus from July, 2010. The International Media Institute of India was conceived by leading Indian editors who found it difficult to hire  skilled entry-level journalists.

The concept was given shape by the Washington-based International Center for Journalists.  Washington-based ICFJ is a non-profit, professional organization that promotes quality journalism worldwide in the belief that independent, vigorous media is crucial in improving human conditions. Since 1984, ICFJ has worked directly with more than 50,000 journalists from 176 countries

The Institute's University partner is the City University of New York's ground-breaking Graduate School of Journalism. CUNY's Graduate J-school offers an innovative, hands-on approach to multimedia journalism education. Students work from a CUNY newsroom, combining intensive study in core disciplines with practical work in reporting, writing and producing stories. CUNY, in conjunction with IMII, has developed the curriculum and, in the future, plans to organize student and faculty exchange programmes.

The Donors are The Knight Foundation and The MacArthur Foundation. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation promotes excellence in journalism worldwide, focusing on projects that have the potential to create transformational change. The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is one of the largest independent foundations in the United States and supports creative people and effective institutions committed to building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world.

Students will learn to use the pioneering Right to Information Act for obtaining information from government bodies and write investigative reports. They will be given practical training in the use of new technology for rural reporting. Students will get the opportunity to do four weeks internship in a leading Media organization to gain essential professional experience.

At the end of the course, they will receive a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the City University of New York and will be fully qualified to work as reporters or copy editors in traditional or new media platforms.See
