    • USENET is an international network of newsgroups and discussion forums. It has been a part of the Internet since 1980.

    Official Specification

    • The official standards of the NNTP are outlined in its document, RFC 977.


    • USENET was originally powered by the UNIX to UNIX copy protocol (UUCP), but it has been replaced by NNTP.

    NNTP Service

    • All computers running Windows servers have an NNTP service installed to allow that Windows server to administer its own USENET style newsgroups for the local network.
